DOHA, May 5, 2017 - Triple jump champion Christian Taylor emerged victorious in the Diamond League season opener in Doha after a 17.25 meter jump.
The US athlete, who has been in an unstoppable form, clinched yet another victory despite his compatriot Omar Craddok dominated the run until Taylor's sixth and last jump.
China´s Bin Dong, world champion indoors, had a difficult night and ended in the fourth place, with only two valid jumps.
The crowd was excited with Taylor, who later said: "It was not easy. I needed to wait till the end to win, but this is sport”.
Asked about breaking the 18.30 meter record, he answered thus: "Every time I jump I am thinking in going past 18.30. I am preparing for this and I think it could be this season".
However, he did not wanted to get carried away: I got my points, so I'm pleased".
