DHAKA, October 11, 2017 - After 32 years of wait, Bangladesh is going to host prestigious Men's Asia Hockey Cup 10th edition at the Maulana Bhasani stadium from October 11 till 22. On the eve of this occasion, Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA) organized a colorful and memorable program, Hockey Stars: 1985 and 2017.

On October 7, a reunion of former hockey players, coaches, referees and organizers took place at Bangladesh Olympic Association auditorium with the presence of the current national team.

The event Bangladesh hosted back in 1985 proved that a tournament can change many things: produce stars and make a sport so popular in the country. BSPA took the initiative to bring all the local players, coaches, officials and umpires of that tournament on one stage, which eventually became a charming get-together of the former hockey stars. They were given crest in the program while those who already passed away were recalled accordingly.

Among the players of the 1985 squad, captain Shahabuddin Chaklader, Osman Gani, Alamgir Chunnu, Kamrul Islam Kismat, Khwaja Daniel, Jamal Parvez Lulu and Abdullah Piru were present there. Some of the other players had already passed away and few are settled abroad. Assistant Technical director of that tournament Shamsul Bari and umpire Sekander Hayat Chowdhury were also honored in the program.

Bangladesh Hockey Federation Secretary General Abdus Sadek, former hockey players Pratap Sankar Hazra, Khwaja Rahmatullah, Ehtesham Sultan, Sazed Adel, Tariquzzaman Nannu and BSPA president Mustafa Mamun and Secretary General Rejwan uz zaman Rajib were also there.

National team head coach Mahbub Harun & team captain of 2017 squad Russel Mahmud Jimmy expressed their happiness and how inspired are they by the former stars.

85 players signed autographs on a hockey stick which was handed over to the current team as a change of baton tow wish them success.
