AMMAN, November 21, 2017 - HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, President of the Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC), welcomed Lord Sebastian Coe, the President of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and Dahlan Al Hamad, Asian Athletics Association President, to Amman, Jordan.
Lord Coe and Mr. Dahlan Al Hamad are in Amman for the Asian Athletics Association Board meeting and were given a very warm welcome by HRH Prince Feisal, who expressed his gratitude to Lord Coe for his support to the Jordan Athletics Federation and the sport as a whole throughout the Kingdom.
The guests visited the JOC痴 全porting Schools箪r project with JOC Secretary General, Nasser Majali, who explained that the initiative will introduce thousands of youngsters to athletics and volleyball. So far, 100 children have been assessed and undergone medical tests to ensure that they are able to compete in sport. More sports will be added to the programme in the coming years.
The initiative was praised by Lord Coe, who recognised its potential to not only instill the spirit of sport into Jordan痴 youth, but also the opportunity it provides to discover new talent, which could be developed through to elite level.
The guests also attended an honouring ceremony, hosted by the Jordan Athletics Federation, for the medalists of the 2017 Arab Athletics Championships, which was held in Tunisia in July, as well as other athletes who achieved success in 2017.
