LAUSANNE, January 11, 2017 – In PyeongChang, a possible ‘United Korea’ team in two-man’s bobsleigh would be the first down the track, in every sense.

Among all the topics which need to be discussed in Lausanne on January 20, during the much-awaited IOC meeting there is also the unofficial one - but most important in term of symbolic relevance – that of joint participation. The two man's bobsleigh and the women’s ice hockey are the two possibilities to see North and South Korean athletes competing side by side at the Winter Games. Last time a full joint participation happened was in Berlin in 1936 – at Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Turin 2006 the two Korea's marched together at the Opening Ceremony – while their joint participation at the 1991 Table Tennis World Championships in China was a resounding topic.

NUMBERS North Korea's delegation at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics includes 400 people as revealed on Wednesday at a promotional event by Lee Nakyon, Prime Minister of South Korea. He has counted not just the athletes but also officials, supporters and journalists to come together with the taekwondo team announced during Thursday agreements.

THE RELEVANCE OF PYEONGCHANG 2018 “It’s hard to deny that what will happen at the Games at less than 100 km from the militarized border will give a relevant contribution to the history of humankind. Traces will be deep and will improve the situation of Korean peninsula,” added Lee Nakyon. This might be overemphasizing the fact, but it shows just how much the Panmunjom bilateral talks have meant.

LAUSANNE It is now time to put pen to paper on the terms of North Korea's participation. For the moment it is possible that Jim Yo-Jong, Kim Jong-Un’s 30-year-old sister, will be the one to lead the delegation. All the details will come out from the meeting set by IOC at their Lausanne headquarters in less than 10 days. Representatives of the Organizing Committee will be present, along with the two National Olympic Committees with their respective presidents, governments and IOC national members themselves.
