The 57-year-old, who will assume his new role after the FIFA World Cup in Russia, is to be in charge of the “strategic development” of the club and interact with all of its structural departments – including the club’s academy.
Dynamo Brest are currently in eighth position in the country's Premier League and also searching for a coach.
Spokeswoman of the club Olga Khizhinkova said in an interview to the Belarusian press: “We have a sports directorate, these are her immediate duties. Moreover, we need a coach now, and our working relationship with Diego begins in July. Of course, we will be looking for a coach before July.”
Maradona, an Argentine legend and former World Cup winner, is largely recognised as one of the greatest footballers of all time, but his career as a coach has been anything but successful. Only last month he left United Arab Emirates second division club Al-Fujairah after failing to guide them to the first division.
Khizhinkova added: “Did we give Diego Maradona a chance? Very flattering formulation for our club. Let's just say we are very glad that we are useful to each other at this time. Of course, we are incredibly pleased that Diego Maradona will be a part of the club "Dynamo-Brest". It's great and, probably, will inspire football players not only of our club, but also will benefit the whole championship of Belarus.”
The Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi will host a press conference with Diego Maradona and representatives of the club at a yet to be announced date.
LAUSANNE, May 16, 2018 - Diego Armando Maradona is set for a new adventure in Belarus now that he has been named Chairman of Dynamo Brest, a topflight club in the Eastern European country, on a three-year contract.
