HONG KONG, November 7, 2018 - Mr. Timothy T. T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China since 1998 has been awarded the Silver Olympic Order of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) by Thomas Bach, President of the IOC, in recognition of his outstanding achievements in global sport and dedication to the Olympic values.
Olympic Orders are awarded by the IOC for services to the Olympic movement and previous recipients include Sebastian Coe, Steffi Graf, Jesse Owens and Nadia Comăneci, as well as Pope Francis, Nelson Mandela and Indira Gandhi.
Mr. FOK is the member of the IOC from 2001 to 2016; Honorary Member since 2017; Member of the following Commissions: Coordination for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad Beijing 2008 (2002-2008), Culture and Olympic Education (2007-2015), International Relations (2009-2015), Coordination for the Games of the XXXI Olympiad Rio 2016 (2010-2016), Public Affairs and Social Development through Sport (2015-2016), Culture and Olympic Heritage (2015-2017), Coordination for the XXIV Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 (2016-2017), Audit Committee (2015-2017).
He was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1998 by the HKSAR Government and was awarded the “Silver Bau hinia Star” in 1999 and “Gold Bauhinia Star” in 2004 by the HKSAR Government for his contribution to public service.
Mr. FOK is the President of the Hong Kong Football Association (since 1997) and a Member of the FIFA Organizing Committee for the Olympic Football Tournaments. He is the Vice-Chairman of the Sports Commission of the HKSAR Government (since 2005) and a Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. He was a Member of the Legislative Council of HKSAR (1997-2012) representing the Sports, Performing Arts, Culture and Publication functional constituency.
