Bei einem Coman-Schuss zeichnete sich Tormann Alexander Schlager (20.) aus.Beim Gegentor war der ÖFB-Keeper machtlos, denn Blin verlängerte eine Freistoß-Flanke von Gnaly Cornet perfekt mit dem Kopf ins lange Eck. Wenig später hätte Guirassy nach Cornet-Vorlage auf 2:0 erhöhen müssen, schlug aber aus kürzester Distanz über den Ball (36.). Bei einem Schuss von Samed Kilic rettete dann kurz vor der Pause Kapitän David Domej per Kopf (43.).HitzeNach dem Wechsel flachte die Partie aufgrund der Hitze - beim Anpfiff wurden 31 Grad Celsius im Schatten gemessen - zunächst ein wenig ab, wobei die Österreicher die aktivere Mannschaft waren. Und ein abgefälschter Schuss von Sascha Horvath bereitete Escales, der den Ball erst im Nachgreifen bändigte, enorme Probleme (72.).Doch in Minute 77 erlitten die ÖFB-Bemühungen einen Dämpfer, da Rechtsverteidiger Petar Gluhakovic nach einem Foul an Coman wegen wiederholten Foulspiels mit Gelb-Rot vom Platz gestellt wurde. Schlager verhinderte zwar mit einer weiteren Glanzparade bei einem abgefälschten Schuss von Lucas Tousart das 0:2 (81.), doch auch auf der Gegenseite war Escales bei weiteren Chancen von Horvath (88.) und dem eingewechselten Tobias Pellegrini (89.) auf dem Posten. Damit steht Österreich im zweiten Match gegen Griechenland schon unter Siegzwang, um seine Semifinalchance zu wahren.
