Georgian journalists, sports administrators and sports fans have welcomed the country’s first definitive sporting resource,  the recently published ”Sport Encyclopaedia”.

Through the financial support of the Georgian Olympic Fund, the 700 page colour book was published by the Georgian Sport Writers Association. Comprising 2500 articles and 4000 photos, drawings, diagrams and charts, the ”Sport Encyclopaedia” is the first publication of its kind in Georgia. It brings together the history of over 200 international and local sports, competition rules, results of important competitions, definitions of sporting terms, dossiers of about 1000 sport stars as well as diverse statistical data, information on international sport organizations, the strongest sport clubs and significant sport structures.
Author of the project and editor-in-chief Elguja Berishvili, President of the Georgian Sport Writers Association, commenced working on the encyclopedia together with his colleagues in 1997.
The publication was launched in front of 300 guests at a January function at the Courtyard Marriott, Tbilisi.
