Confident Three Star, who had already qualified for the finals even before going into the match after debutants Erchim FC of Mongolia have stunned Abahani Limited of Bangladesh 1-0 earlier in the day, went two goals ahead within first 15 minutes but TPC impressively fought back to similar level before first half.
Meanwhile, underdogs Erchim achieved a historic success in their debut season as they meekly secured their place for the finals as the runners-up.
Undefeated Three Star accumulated five points, one point superior than Erchim, from three matches.
“We are potent enough to win the Championship itself,” said Three Star coach Pradip Humagain. This is the matter of great pride for the nation and we want to dedicate the achievement to our faithful fans.
This is the second time league champions Three Star have locked their horns against TPC. Back in 2005, they have played out a 1-1 stalemate.
