AIPS EUROPE in solidarity with ERT employees as Greece suspends state broadcaster ERT to save money

LAUSANNE, June 12, 2013 - The Executive Committee of AIPS EUROPE representing national sports journalists associations from 48 countries is in solidarity with our fellow colleagues in Greece who as of yesterday, June 11, will be facing serious employment problems. This is the result after a degrading notice the broadcasting government spokesman Mr. Simos Kedikoglou announced the sudden death of state broadcaster ERT.

As from midnight tonight transmitters of ERT will fall silent and the frequencies of ERT will broadcast only black. In total 2,656 ERT employees will be loosing their jobs, 250 of whom work in various sports departments.

The AIPS EUROPE Executive Committee will be following the developments closely in such an uncalled for situation and within its limits will give the necessary help and support to the media colleagues in Greece in such a difficult moment.
