The sports photographer from St Florian won the award with a photograph of Swedish Olympic, World and European heptathlon champion, Karolina Klüft mid-flight in a long jump.
Each year Sports Media Austria, the largest sports journalists association in Austria, hosts the Sport Photographer of the Year award for members and non-members working in the fields of photo, print, television and internet.
Entries submitted must have been produced and published between April 2006 and April 2007. A top-class jury judges the entries and winners in each category are given the title “Sports Journalist of the Year”. One of the category winners is additionally voted to receive the overall prize.
Sports Photographer of the Year, Helmut Ploberger who took the unusual photograph of Klüft from behind: “I usually always take up a different position from most of the other photographers, and therefore my photos are unique”.

Print: Helmut Neundlinger, Datum Magazine, for the article „Wunderkind“ – Child Prodigy
TV: Michael Bacher, ORF, for a presentation of the national football league’s autumn season in poetry
Internet: Thorsten Medwedeff, for his on-line coverage of Jungle Marathon participant, Christian Schiester, on „sport1.a”t.
The awards presentation ceremony will take place in Tauernhof Flachau on Tuesday, June 5.
