VIENNA, June 27, 2007 - Members of Austria’s sports media gathered recently in Flachau for the annual congress of Sports Media Austria (SMA).
At the invitation of Sportwelt Amadé and in co-operation with sponsors Salzburg 2014 and the Tourist Association of Salzburg-Flachau, the meeting was ably hosted by Toni Kramer in ski legend Hermann “The Herminator” Maier’s stamping ground.
110 members and friends gathered for the statutory annual convention and were able to learn from various presentations and speeches on the topical issue of “doping” from State Secretary of Sport, Dr Reinhold Lopatka and sports lawyer, Dr Christian Flick. There was time for smaller groups to gather for discussions on sporting issues, as well as some relaxing downtime with excursions, mountain walking and bicycle tours.
Toni Schutti reported on the progress of the 2007 Athlete of the Year award which will take place in the form of a Gala Night in Vienna/ Vösendorf on October 24.
Participants of the Gymnastics Grand Prix ’07 demonstrated their skills. Well known sports personalities who graced the meeting with their presence included local winter sports stars Manuela Riegler, Brigitte Obermoser and Michael “Walchi” Walchhofer, all giving freely of their time to answer questions from the floor.
As it has been in the past ten years – since the foundation of Sport Media Austria - this year’s annual meeting was a worthy event – especially on the back of the hugely successful AIPS Congress in Bregenz in May – a good example also for the upcoming Euro 2008.
