ABBOTTABAD, June 09, 2014 - Mian Iftikhar Hussain, former provincial minister was elected president of the Pakistan Badminton Federation for the next term with Adil Hayat Khan Rokri voted in as General Secretary. The election process was monitored by the representatives of Pakistan Olympic Association, Badminton World Federation, and the Pakistan Sports Board who were present during the entire process as observers. The annual General Meeting was attended by all the affiliated units of PBF which includes Sindh, Baluchistan, Punjab, KPK, Islam Abad, FATA, Gilgit Baltistan, Railway etc including officials of the Pakistan Badminton Players Association. All the candidates were elected unanimously and former National Player Naqi Mohsin, who represented Pakistan in the Thomas Cup was elected Senior Vice president, Zafar Ali Khan as vice president, Tayyab Suhail Joint Secretary, Iftikhar Khan as Finance Secretary and Haji Amjad as member of the Executive committee. Eight-time national champion Wajid Ali and four-time national women's champion Aisha Ikram were also present during the meeting. An appreciation letter from the president of the World Badminton Federation was also read by the representative of BWF. Newly elected president Mian Iftikhar Hussain in his presidential address vowed to bring back the glorious past of badminton in the country as in the 70's and 80's Pakistan produced excellent players who took an active part in the world competitions and had brought laurels for the country. He pointed out that for the Asian Games, the Pakistan Badminton team will take part and trials will be held soon for the male and female teams followed by series of camp trainings. He also announced the national calendar for the coming six months in which besides the National Badminton Championship, the National Junior Championship will be held in Sindh followed by the Interprovincial event in KPK. Senior vice president of the Pakistan Olympic Association, Syed Aqil Shah, in his message to the newly elected Badminton Federation pinned his hopes on the federation reviewing the badminton activities throughout the country for which he assured full support to the office bearers of PBF.
