Best national athlete David Nalbandian

David Nalbandian, winner of the Tennis Masters Cup, held in December 2005, in Shanghai, China, holding in one hand the “Olimpia de Plata” trophy for Best Tennis Player, and in the other hand the “Olimpia de Oro” for being voted Best Sportsman of the Year by the Circle of Sport Journalists of Buenos Aires.

In Argentina, most of the 36 organizations belonging to the NSJA in Argentina (FAPED) offer prizes to the best sports athletes of the region annually. The most prestigious and long-time award, which goes to the best athletes chosen out of the whole country, is granted by the Circle of Journalists of Buenos Aires and is called ”Olympics”. In 2005 the ”Golden Olympics Award” went to tennis player David Nalbandian, winner of the Tennis Master Cup held in China in December. David Nalbandian won this award with an almost negligible margin against the basketball player Emanuel Ginóbili. Ginóbili is generally the favourite athlete according to general opinion, who received the Golden Olympics Award in 2003 and 2004. In 2004 he shared the title with football player Carlos Tévez, as both of them were the best members of their winning teams in the Olympics of Athens. None of the teams showed a really outstanding performance, since in 2005 no major worldwide or regional tournaments were held in the top league.
