LUXEMBOURG CITY, September 5, 2007 - In a private audience at his palace in Luxembourg City, His Royal Highness Grand Duke Henri and Her Royal Highness Grand Duchess Maria Teresa welcomed the country’s athletes of the year 2006 which had been recently elected by Luxembourg’s Association of Sports Writers (ALPS).

Athletes present at the audience included Frank Schleck, best male athlete of 2006, Liz May, best female athlete of the year, as well as the best team of the year, the Tennis Davis Cup team represented by team captain Johny Goudenbour and players Mike Scheidweiler and Laurent Bram. Both Gilles Muller and Gilles Kremer were excused because of commitments abroad at the time of the reception.

The athletes were joined by the presidents of their respective federations, namely Jean Regenwetter (cyclists), Michel Knepper (triathlon) and Yves Kemp (tennis). Also present were Marc Theisen, president of Luxembourg’s Olympic Committee (COSL) and Petz Lahure, president of the country’s sportswriters association.
