BUCHAREST, May 19, 2015 - A very important moment for NSJA Romania, one of the old associations affiliated to AIPS (founded in 1927) was recently held- the election of the new Executive Committee. Our colleague Dumitru Graur was re-elected President for next four years.

Doru Dinu Glăvan, president of Professional Press Union (UZP) and I attended the meeting.

The General Assembly began by analyzing its activity of the last year, looking into the future and "how it can increase the level of its activities and its involvement in this period ", according Dumitru Graur.

I read out the message by Gianni Merlo, AIPS President, in which he noted that:

“Romania has a rich history of sports journalism dating back to the 1800’s and it was against this wonderful tapestry that the move was made to establish the Romanian Sports Press Association. I want to underline the excellent relations that we have with the president of the Romanian Association, Dumitru Graur, and with our EC Member, Emanuel Fântâneanu.

"This testifies to the close links between our two associations are working together for a better future of sports journalism. Sport can do a lot for peace in the world, more than what we sometimes think! For this reason we must believe in our mission and I am sure that the Romanian Association will continue in this process of development of culture and also protecting the integrity of sports through your articles by stepping up the fight against match-fixing, doping and even illegal betting. We in AIPS follow your events and we are committed to supporting our member through training, networking and very soon awarding the best in sports press...”

Then the members extensively discussed NSJA’s contribution to the AIPS Programs (Young Reporter, Sports Media Pearl Awards and others).

At the meeting Doru Dinu Glăvan, president of Professional Press Union, called for actions to raise the status of the journalists and journalism: “to create a common front to support our profession, so that members of the press to be accepted (in Romania law), among the creators of culture, because what they do is an act of creation. This issue is very important for every journalist, for his actual work, but also for the time of retirement...”

After the long and fruitful discussions the Executive Committee for next four years was elected:

President: Dumitru Graur

Vice-President: Vlad Enăchescu (Dolce Sport TV)

General Secretary: Romeo Chiriac (APSR)

Members: Cătălin Cârnu (Radio Romania), Emil Grădinescu (Dolce Sport), Alexandru Enciu (Sport in Romania), NarcisDrejan (Radio Sport FM).

President Dumitru Graur thanked the members for electing him for another term saying: “Nothing can be achieved without the involvement and support of all. The journalist profession is one of the most beautiful and we have to fight for its prestige. Press represents a force by which can straighten things in the society. However, it should be practiced with responsibility. The word is a powerful weapon, if it is used as it should be and for the benefit of society…”

A powerful ending as the colleagues marked a minute of silence for fallen NSJA colleagues.
