New double edition of the AIPS Magazine now available online

LAUSANNE, December 17, 2016 – The latest, double edition of the AIPS Magazine is now available online. Featuring a new format, content selection and design, issue III/IV of 2016 takes a look at the stories that have shaken, questioned and inspired the world of sport and sports journalism.

Strength to Chape

The cover story of the AIPS magazine focuses on the tragic Colombia air disaster where the plane carrying Brazil's Chapecoense football team to the final of the Copa Sudamericana crashed, leaving 71 people dead, with 21 of the victims sports journalists covering Chapecoense´s historic run to the final. AIPS Young Reporter Alejandro Munevar from Colombia was at the scene of the crash, from which he gave a sobering account of one of sport´s most resounding tragedies to date.

Rio 2016

As we look back on an Olympic year, AIPS analyzes the Kings of Rio 2016 and the uncontested influence of Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt. The much-debated impact of the first Olympics in South America is featured, along with a look at the apocalypse narrative that surrounded the Games.

Journalists on the Podium

The impact of Olympic journalism was celebrated as AIPS continued its tradition of Olympic Journalists on the Podium. Members of the media who have covered 10 or more Olympic Games and who have dedicated their careers to Olympic sport were honored in a special ceremony in Rio.

From the World

The new From the World section of the AIPS magazine focuses on the issues and milestones of sports journalism throughout the many member associations of AIPS around the world, including the appointment of Lisa Edwinsson, as the first female president of the Swedish Sports Journalists Association (SSF).

AIPS Young Reporters Jordan 2016

AIPS held one of its most successful Young Reporters programmes at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Jordan, where 15 perspective young journalists contributed their talent and their voices to the coverage of the historic first women’s world cup to be held in a Muslim country.
