ISTANBUL, March 25, 2008 – The AIPS Executive Committee’s recent two day meeting in Istanbul has started with an elite attendance from sports governing body representatives of Turkey.
The opening speeches were made by Minister of Sport Mr Murat Basesgioglu and Director General of Youth and Sport Mr.Mehmet Atalay. AIPS Honorary President Mr Togay Bayatli was also among the distinguished guests of the opening ceremony.
Mr Basesgioglu’s address, which started with a very warm welcome, focussed mostly on the importance and the power of the sports press in establishing new horizons for youngsters. He pointed out that sport journalists have much more effect on their readers rather than other journalists working with various topics such as politics and economics. Mr Basesgioglu also said that Turkey’s goverment is proud of what the Turkish Sports Writers Associaton (TSYD) is doing for sports journalism in the country and its effective international success.
AIPS Interim Vice President and Turkish Sports Writers Association President Mr Esat Yılmaer did a wonderful job in making everything perfect as host for the successful board meeting, with the cooperation of TSYD and UEPS Board Member Mr Murat Agca.
As it was the first EC meeting of 2008, the AIPS top directors discussed major topics during the two day meeting which took place in the Swiss Hotel Bosphorus.
