Media accreditation and information - IAAF Council, IAAF Congress and IAAF/IOC meeting

LAUSANNE, June 29, 2017 - There will be a number of important meetings taking place in the British capital around the IAAF World Championship London 2017 (4-13 August). In addition to press releases and dedicated news coverage on the IAAF website and social media, the following media opportunities, facilities and assistance will be offered.

IAAF Council Meetings

The 210th IAAF Council Meeting will take place at the Marriott West India Quay* on Monday 31 July. As there is no media access to the Council Meeting, the IAAF will provide images and B-roll footage, free to use for editorial coverage.

WHAT:

IAAF Press Conference, Monday 31 July at 1900hrs (time tbc)

The 211th IAAF Council Meeting will be held at the Marriott West India Quay* on the final day of the championships, Sunday 13 August. As there is no media access to the Council Meeting, the IAAF will provide images and B-roll footage, free to use for editorial coverage.

IAAF Congress

Delegates from among 213 national IAAF Member Federations will gather for the 51st IAAF Congress on Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 August 2017 at ExCeL London, One Western Gateway, Royal Victoria Dock, London E16 1XL. Eastern entrance, via Prince Regent DLR station.

The first day of Congress (2) will be devoted to Athletics Connect, an initiative of the recent governance reforms. A new sports convention with keynote speeches, panellists, discussions and debates, Athletics Connect brings together stakeholders from across the global athletics family, IAAF’s Member Federations, coaches, athletes, as well as industry experts from the sport, technology and marketing sectors. It’s a day designed to inspire, challenge, inform, and prompt discussion about building a strong future for athletics. Further details about ‘Athletics Connect’ will be published in the coming weeks.

The second day of Congress (3) will be a general plenary session for delegates only. While there is no media access to the congress hall, all accredited media will be able to view proceedings via a live video link from an adjacent media working room. The IAAF will also provide images and B-roll footage, free to use for editorial coverage.

An IAAF Congress media work room will be operational at ExCeL London from 0800hrs to 2000hrs on 2-3 August. The media room facilities will include internet connection, working desks, press conference facilities, lounge area and refreshments.

Joint meeting – IAAF Council and IOC Executive Board

As is traditional prior to every IAAF World Championships, the IAAF Council and the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will hold a joint meeting on Friday 4 August at the Marriott West India Quay. As there is no media access to the joint jeeting*, the IAAF will provide images and B-roll footage, free to use for editorial coverage.

MEDIA ACCREDITATION

(1.) Media who are accredited for the IAAF World Championships: no need to register – no further action required.

Media (written media, photographers and broadcasters) who have successfully applied for accreditation for the IAAF World Championships London 2017 have automatic access to all IAAF media opportunities, provided they wear their accreditation card at all times.

Accredited media should collect their passes from the Accreditation Centre at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (behind the Aquatics Centre). The Accreditation Centre will be open at the following times: 26-30 July 0900-1800, 31 July-3 August 0800-2000.

(2.) Media who are not accredited for the IAAF World Championships: registration is required.

A limited number of access passes are available for members of the media who do NOT have an accreditation for the IAAF World Championships London 2017 but who wish to attend either the IAAF Council press conference on 31 July and/or the IAAF Congress on 2-3 August and/or the IAAF/IOC press conference on 4 August.

The allocation of passes is dependent upon pre-registration on a first-come-first-served basis and the provision of the following information when applying to councilmedia@iaaf.org:

1 - Applicant’s name

2 - Email address

3 - Mobile telephone number

4 - Name of media organisation representing

5 - Nationality

6 - Photo Identification: either (a.) national press card number or (b.) AIPS press card number or (c.) PDF of a signed letter from their editor/producer accompanied by a scanned copy of the passport of the applicant.

7 - Please confirm which of the press opportunities you wish to attend: (a.) IAAF Council Meeting press conference 31 July (b.) IAAF Congress 2-3 Aug (c.) IAAF/IOC press conference 4 Aug, (d.) ALL.

IMPORTANT: All successful applicants must present their original photo identification when collecting their passes from the media welcome desk which will operational at the following locations and dates only: Marriott West India Quay (31 Jul, 4 Aug & 13 Aug) and ExCeL London (2 & 3 Aug).

Notes

*There are no media facilities at the Marriott West India Quay which is situated six stops (15mins journey) on the Docklands Light Railway from the London Stadium Media Centre at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

**Please note the press conference in the stadium on Sunday 13 August can only be accessed by those with an accreditation card for the IAAF World Championships London 2017.
