VIENNA, November 6, 2017 - At a grand party at the Vienna Kursalon, Austrian sport journalism legend Michael Kuhn celebrated his 80th birthday. In attendance at the event was the the "haute vaullee" of Austria’s Sport scene: Alpine skiing’s Franz Klammer, Annemarie Moser-Pröll and Karl Schranz, football names Hans Krankl, Herbert Prohaska and Toni Polster, tennis great Thomas Muster’s former manager Ronnie Leitgeb and Austrian ski-jumping legend Hubert Neuper as the master of ceremonies. But the stream of attendees and congratulations seemed to be never-ending - 230 guests came to celebrate with the great doyen of Austrian sports journalism.
Even AIPS president Gianni Merlo were in attendance, and he presented the former AIPS Treasurer the most apt of gifts – a pen as a symbol of his great career and contribution to the AIPS family.
Michael Kuhn was president of the Austrian National Sport Journalist Association - Sports Media Austria until 2014 and still remains honorary president. He was Treasurer of AIPS for four years and a member of the Executive Committee and is now chairman of the AIPS Ethics Commission.
