MINSK, June 4, 2008 – Belarus’ elite female athletes gathered recently at the Minsk Casino Olympic for the announcement of the “Queen of Sport” contest winners.
Held by the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus, the Belarusian Sports Press Association and supported by the International Olympic Committee, the contest was aimed at developing the women’s sports movement, the strengthening of women’s role in the Olympic movement, the promotion of Olympic ideals and principals, and healthy life-style and social values.
12 female athletes representing 11 sports took part in the contest: Karina Alexandrova (kickboxing), Irina Vasilenko (swimming), Ludmila Volchok (cross country skiing), Darya Domracheva (biathlon), Valeria Kurilskaya (rhythmic gymnastics), Kseniya Milevskaya (tennis), Alla Muravskaya (basketball), Assol Slivets (freestyle), Anna Terenya (acrobatics), Ilona Usovich (athletics), Lubov Cherkashina (rhythmic gymnastics), Anna Sharevich (chess).
The jury was chaired by NOC Belarus Vice-President Mikhail Kobrinsky and awarded the spectators’ sympathy prize to Darya Domracheva and Miss Photo prize to Karina Alexandrova.
For active participation in the ‘Athlete for Children’ campaign, sports achievements and popularity among sports fans, Valeria Kurilskaya, European and World Rhythmic Gymnastics bronze medalist, was declared the ultimate winner of the contest.
All the participants were given prizes from NOC Belarus sponsors and partners – Zepter cosmetic kits and certificates for services in Letual beauty shop.
The contest’s winner was given an NOC Belarus Swiss watch.
