ROME, December 4, 2017 - The newly-elected AIPS Executive Committee arrived in Rome on December 3, 2017 for three days of intense work regarding the immediate future of the International Sport Press Association. For the first time in the presidential mandates of the current Italian AIPS President Gianni Merlo, the capital of his home country will host the important meeting. The first day of the EC meeting was held at the headquarters of the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) in Rome, where AIPS members were special guests of CONI.
After an intense morning of discussions, the AIPS EC members were also invited to attend the official award ceremony held by CONI and the Italian Sports Journalists Association (USSI), honoring the best sports writers of the year. Special CONI awards were presented to Italian journalists on their outstanding writing in sporting novels, non-fiction, books on fitness and training and more.
AIPS President Gianni Merlo also presented a special AIPS award and history book to CONI President Giovanni Malagň, thanking him for supporting the work of journalists on both national and international stage.
81st AIPS Congress
The AIPS Executive Committee also confirmed the dates for the 81st annual Congress in 2018. AIPS will gather over 200 journalists from up to 100 nations in Antalya, Turkey for important discussions on the state of journalism and freedom of speech from April 2-7, 2018.
