LYON, May 16, 2018 - The Professional Football Strategy Council (PFSC) met on Wednesday in Lyon and expressed concerns about the new FIFA competition proposals

The Professional Football Strategy Council (PFSC) met today in Lyon and discussed a variety of matters such as the new UEFA club licensing and financial fair play regulations, competitive balance, social dialogue and received an update on the ongoing work of the FIFA transfer system task force.

The PFSC unanimously expressed serious reservations about the process surrounding the FIFA Club World Cup and Global Nations League proposals and in particular the hasty timing and lack of concrete information and underlined the need for a clearly defined procedure, which respect existing structures and decision-making bodies and which involves all key stakeholders.

In particular, such proposals must be considered as part of a global reflection on the overall international match calendar and cannot be decided upon in isolation.

The PFSC comprises elected representatives of the four main stakeholder groups involved in European professional football: the clubs, via the European Club Association (ECA); the leagues, via the European Leagues; the players, via FIFPro Division Europe; and UEFA, as the football governing body at European level. The body discusses issues of strategic importance for professional football in Europe and advises the UEFA Executive Committee accordingly.
