DHAKA, July 5, 2008 - Bangladesh Sports Writers Association (BSWA) observed the International Sports Journalists’ Day in a befitting manner.
Marking the day Bangladesh Sports Writers Association accorded reception at the NSC Tower on July 3 to three veteran Sports Writers, Sirajul Islam Bachchu, Professor Ashrafuddin Khan and Jibon Bose.
This year BSWA jointly organised the program with the World Health Organisation (WHO) promoting anti-smoking activities in the sports arena. The slogan of the day was ‘Tobacco Free Sports’ and Dr. Iqbal Kabir, a WHO representative in Bangladesh presented a power point display on anti smoking & the bad effects of tobacco.
The Bangladesh Sports Writers Association proposed a tobacco free sports arena. Secretary of the National Sports Council, Akbar Hussain, and CEO and Director of the Bangladesh Olympic Association Colonel (Retd.) Md. Wali Ullah agreed with the proposal and declared their respective office premises as a smoking free zone.
A colorful folder was published to mark the occasion. It included profiles of the three awardees along with the AIPS President’s message for International Sports Journalists’ Day. A crest and a blazer were also given to the awardees.
President of the Bangladesh Sports Writers Association, Sarwar Hossain presided over the reception program while General Secretary Rafiqul Islam delivered the welcome address. Director and Chairman (Audit Committee) of Exim Bank Limited, Nurul Fazal Bulbul was the Chief Guest while Managing Director of the Epyllion Group Riazuddin al Mamun and Professional Officer of World Health Organisation (WHO) Bangladesh chapter Dr. Mostafa Zaman were special guests.
Tomorrow, July 5, BSWA will conduct a colourful rally from Shahabagh Public Library to the Moulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium. The rally was scheduled to be held on July 2 but was shifted because of monsoonal rain and bad weather.
