SCHAFFHAUSEN, Switzerland, March 6, 2009 - An autopsy performed in Zurich has revealed that a  20-year-old German handball player who collapsed and died during a game for the German under-21 team on Tuesday died from acute heart failure.

The shooting star Sebastian Faisst  collapsed suddenly during a game between the German and Swiss junior national sides in Schaffhausen and despite emergency medical treatment from the German team doctor, Prof. Dr. Kurt Steuer and the emergency rescue team from the Shaffhausen hospital, the young player was unable to be resuscitated.

Faisst was pronounced dead at the Handball stadium after the medical team worked to revive him for more than an hour.

The game was abandoned and authorites decided to cancel the return match which was set for the following day in Steisslingen.

Both teams and their entourages were given expert assistance from a Care Team. The teams spent the night in a hotel and were able to seek one on one counselling from a team of professional psychologists.

The young player who was one of Germany's rising stars will be farewelled at a funeral in Bavaria tomorrow (Saturday).
