Doha has been and gone and Bregenz is on the horizon! The Austrian border city nestled on lake Constance, or “Bodensee” in German, will be host city for the 70th AIPS Congress 2007. Bregenz’s Festival House, normally the venue of lavishly staged operas included in the world famous Bregenz Festival program will see an agenda of a difference next May 15-20, when the AIPS program graces the stage of the modern opera house.
It will definitely be a contrast to Doha. The temperature in May will certainly not be in the high 30’s (Celsius) but should be around 20 degrees. And of course, there’s no desert! Only a few kilometres away, 2000 metres above sea level, you can walk in the snow, and although you won’t find a beach in sight, there is the wonderful shoreline of the lake. But the people of Bregenz will be as kind as those in Qatar and the hospitality will be just as welcoming. The joint hosts, the Swiss and Austrian Sports Journalists Associations have been hard at work behind the scenes for the past twelve months organizing the 70th Jubilee Congress of AIPS. Among highlights in store, delegates have been invited to the nearby Principality of Liechtenstein where they will be guests of the Prince.
In June members will have access to a website dedicated solely to the Bregenz Congress. Please visit the AIPS-homepage and click on “Congress” where you will find the link to the “aips2007” website. The site will include useful information on the Congress, the host city Bregenz, transport and application forms.
Presidents of the Swiss and Austrian Sports Journalists Associations, Fredy Staubesand and Michael Kuhn, together with Jürg Schmellentin, President of our Liechtenstein colleagues, signed the Congress contract in Doha. It will be the first time in AIPS history that more than one country will host an AIPS-Congress together. The European Football Championships to be conducted in Switzerland and Austria in 2008, were the inspiration for the decision to organize the joint event.
Small, but beautiful. Perhaps not as luxurious as Doha, but with a lot of open hearts. Not as hot as Doha, but warm enough to enjoy. Bregenz! Be there next May for the 70th Anniversary Congress.
