MINSK, May 18, 2009 – In honor of Press Day the leading sports journalists of the country were recently invited to a meeting in the Olympic press-centre “Vancouver-2010” at the NOC Belarus Headquarters.
NOC Belarus Secretary General George Katulin, the first Olympic Champion in the history of the Republic of Belarus, Sergei Makharenko and BASP President Piotr Rabukhin congratulated the members of the media.
A number of veterans of the sports press were also invited to the meeting. There were Nina Prokhopovich - a journalist with 55 (!) years of experience - and Nikholai Petropavlovsky - a journalist with 50 (!) years of experience - a famous sports commentator.
George Katulin congratulated the guests on the holiday and wished them every success. He also thanked the veterans of press and awarded the members of press with the Diplomas of NOC Belarus and valuable gifts.
In attendance were Konstantin Belous (sports editor of Respublika newspaper), Ivan Kahnovich (head of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism Department of Minski Kurier), Sergei Vischnevsky (special correspondent of the Belarusian News Agency), Anzhelika Urmman (special correspondent of the Sportscasting Management of STV Television Company), Nikholai Stulo (head of sports department of ATN Belarusian Television Company), Maxim Jassyn (head of Sportscasting Department of ONT), Victor Rjabinyn (editor-in-chief of Sportivnaja Panorama newspaper).
BASP President Piotr Rabukhin and the Executive Committee of the Belarusian Sports Press Association also awarded the journalists with gifts to mark the occasion.
The Special Diploma of the Association was given to the Sports Department of Sovetskaya Belorussiya.
At the meeting in the NOC Belarus Headquarters the presentation of the new sports regional weekly newspaper Sport-time took place. It was introduced by its editor-in-chief, Oleg Fedorov.
At the end of the meeting the new members of BASP were given special cards of the Association.
