MEXICO CITY, September 9, 2009 - Mario Vázquez Raña, president of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO), has said that after receiving the report from the PASO Evaluation Commission that visited Bogotá recently, that the Colombian capital has been approved to continue as a candidate city to host the 2015 Pan American and Para Pan American Games.
The Evaluation Commission, led by Julio César Maglione, who is head of the Uruguayan Olympic Committee and newly-elected president of world swimming body FINA, stated that it “is admirable the commitment that the national and city governments have regarding the city’s aspiration to be host of the Pan American Games."
The Evaluation Commission was also very satisfied with the current sports infrastructure in Bogotá and affirmed that there is a lot of enthusiasm in the city for the Games, the largest sporting event in the Americas . At the meeting which was held in Mexico City , proposals by Lima and Toronto were also accepted as candidate cities. The final decision will be made in Guadalajara in early November.
