BUDAPEST, October 13, 2010 - The more than 30-year-old World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO) together with Azerbaijan Kickboxing Federation will organize the 2010 WAKO Kickboxing European Championships in Low-kick, K1 rules and Light Contact ( 3 out of 7 disciplines which today form the umbrella called “Kickboxing”) in Baku, Capital of Azerbaijan from October 18 – 24. The event is held in Heydar Aliyev Sport & Concert Complex in Baku.
WAKO’s top athletes have just come back home from the 1st ever SportAccord World Combat Games, organized from August 27th to September 4th 2010 in Beijing in the same Olympic venues of 2008. They were the first of a new world-wide serie of events to be launched in the coming years. The World Combat Games 2010 featured 13 martial arts and combat sports, both Olympic and non-Olympic. The World Combat Games were a great success and even Presidents like Dimitry Medvedev (Russia) met and congratulated personally those Russian fighters who got 18 gold medals in 13 sports.
Now the athletes are preparing for the next challenge, the European Championships. The event is organized under the patronage of the President of Azerbaijan Republic Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijan Olympic Committee and the highest governmental sport authorities. Up to today 32 countries and 689 participants confirmed their participation with one week to go.
