Elections at Venezuela's NSJA.

Caracas - Past President Leonardo Rodriguez, elected President Hugo Chavez and AIPS' Continental Delegate Prof. Hugo A. Lencina

By Carlos M. Garcia – AIPS’s First Vice President

Venezuela’s Sport Journalist Association elected their new Board of Directors on November 23rd. for the next four years with a participation of 60% of their members and in a very friendly and cordial atmosphere.

Two groups were the candidates and the one headed by Hugo Chavez (no relation to the President of Venezuela) was elected with 43 votes against the one led by Manuel Alvarez with 40 votes.

Our Continental Delegate to AIPS and President of Argentina’s Sport Journalist Federation, Prof. Hugo A. Lencina, was in attendance representing FEPEDA.

A dinner followed that evening with all candidates attending, including the previous Board of Directors, Hugo Lencina and the newly appointed Minister of Sport, Prof. Eduardo Alvarez Camacho.

I had the pleasure to meet in Buenos Aires with Minister Alvarez, the Dean of the newly created Iberoamerican Sport University in Venezuela, Prof. Angel M. Flores and Hugo Lencina where we were invited to Caracas to attend the above mentioned elections and also continue discussions of cooperation in creating post graduate studies in Sport Journalism at that University. I was not able to attend but Mr. Lencina is now in Caracas, invited by Minister Alvarez representing FEPEDA on both matters.
