Photographer wins Sport Media Austria's top award

INNSBRUCK, May 26, 2011 - A spectacular action photograph taken from behind the goal during an ice hockey match has won GEPA-pictures photographer Markus Oberländer Austria's number one sports journalism honour for 2011.

Oberländer's photograph, taken at a game between Graz and Capitals, was one of a record 196 entries in this year's awards sponsored by Coca Cola.

Coca Cola, currently celebrating its 125th anniversary, presented Euro 1,000 cheques to the winners of each category.


Prizes were awarded in the following categories.

TV/Radio - 16 entries

Hero´s Journey - A report by Christoph Vieth from Red Bull Media about Base Jumping with Cedric Dumont

Print - 21 entries

Luxury trip with the drug cartels in Mexico - Felix Lil, winner of last year's main award.

Internet - 7 entries
