PYEONGCHANG, South Korea, June 25, 2011 - Dongsamo, a club for South Korean winter sports enthusiasts, today began a two-week nationwide tour to promote PyeongChang’s bid to host the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Dongsamo was established in 2003 to help increase the popularity of winter sports in Korea. There are now currently over 130,000 club members around the nation and they actively serve as ambassadors for PyeongChang 2018 and additional international winter sport competitions.

Dongsamo’s tour will involve various locations around Korea and the members will be promoting the bid using film projections, music, photography and dance. Members of the club who will be conducting the tour will travel around the country in a specially designed bus, which is wrapped in exciting images of winter sport.

The Dongsamo tour started at PyeongChang City Hall and they travelled to Seoul where the group conducted their promotional activities at the Deoksu Palace, before moving on to other areas of Seoul. The club members will then travel to all major cities including Incheon, Daejeon, Busan, Daegu and Ulsa, returning to PyeongChang on 6 July where they will watch the IOC Host City announcement on television with local residents.

Seung-Hwan Kim, Dongsamo Gangwon Branch Chief, said: “Like the rest of the country, we are very supportive of PyeongChang’s bid for the Winter Games. We are very passionate about winter sports and it would be a great honour for us to welcome the world to Korea in 2018 and give them an amazing Winter Games experience.”

Yang Ho Cho, PyeongChang 2018 Chairman and CEO, said: “It makes everyone involved with our bid extremely proud to see the level of public support for PyeongChang 2018. The enthusiasm and spirit shown by the members of the Dongsamo club highlights that Koreans love winter sports, and a Winter Games in PyeongChang will have venues full of cheering fans.”
