Fifth Pan-Armenian Games kicks off

YEREVAN, August 13,2011 -The fifth Pan Armenian Games kick off in the capital Yerevan and two regional centres -Abovian and Artashat, on Saturday with thousands of athletes competing in various sporting disciplines.

More than 3000 Armenians living in 30 countries from the USA, Argentina, Egypt, Iran among others will take part in the Games.

The Pan Armenian Games programme will see the athletes competing in football, basketball, volleyball, swimming, footstall, athletics, chess, tennis, table tennis and badminton-the sports, which are popular not only in Armenia, but also in the Diaspora.

The Games was founded in 1999, and are held after every four years. The Games are not really professional, as the main aim is like Olympic slogan-participation. The Games also hope to promote friendship through sport between Armenians and those living outiside the borders.The rules are international Federations rules, the spirit is Olympic.

This Games Organizers were exceptionally happy to have the delegation from Lausanne,the Olympic capital very symbolic for the Games.

All the stadiums and sports complexes are ready to receive sportsmen and the guests. The hotels of Yerevan are almost filled with competitors and fans.

The official ceremony of the Games will be held on August 13 at the Yerevan Republican Stadium in the presence of the President of Armenia Mr.Serge Sargsyan. The week long event ends on August 21.
