DHAKA, February 8, 2012 - Hasanullah Khan Rana, special correspondent of Dainik Samokal, and Mustafa Mamun, sports editor of Dainik Kalerkantho, were elected president and general secretary respectively of the Bangladesh Sports Press Association on Friday.
In the hotly-contested elections at the National Sports Council Auditorium, Rana beat Rezaur Rahman Sohag, sports editor of Daily Inquilab, by 86-50 votes while Mamun defeated Kamruzzaman Hiru of Dainik Sangram by 79-57 votes.
Arif Sohel got 71 votes to be elected as the vice-president while Sikander Ali became joint secretary after polling 78 votes.
Rakibur Rahman, with 83 votes, was elected as the financial secretary and Kazi Shahidul Alam, who became organising secretary after receiving 76 votes.
Moazzem Hossain Rokon was elected unopposed as the office secretary.
Selim Nazrul Haque (101), Ikramuzzaman (97), Talha bin Nur (85), Sanaul Haque (84), Mohammad Anwarullah (83) and Rafiqul Alam Miah (71) were elected as the executive committee members.
A total of 142 of the 146 members of the association exercised their voting rights in the elections.
