LUGO,
February 28, 2012 - More than 200 precision shooters from all over Spain gathered for the Lugo Open for
Pneumatic Guns, the most important competition for air Olympic Shooting in Iberia,
and one of the best tournaments in Europe.
"The Open of
Lugo which is growing every year has this time also served to enshrine qualified athletes for the London 2012 Summer Games," Julio Ribas and José António Barrio from the organization, the Club de Tiro RAC de Lugo told AIPS.
Free of the championships
pressure, the shooters playing for two days in Lugo brought high quality of sport,
as Irene del Tormo (Barcelona) and Nuria Carrion
(Ourense), Miguel Diaz (Galiza) and Santiago Fuentes (Madrid) – pistols; Ana
Lopez (Cantabria) and Ana Araujo (Asturias), Roberto Gonzalez (Castilla-Léon)
and the Spain ranking Top 1 Diaz Garcia (Asturias) – rifles.
Marciano Caamaño, national coach and Federación
Española de Discapacitados Físicos coordinator for Paralympics, showed also
true candidates to Gold in London, as the rifles Juan Saavedra Reinaldo
(Galiza), a 600 level shooter, and Pablo Torreiro (Galiza), plus the pistols
José Luis Martinez Sierra (Asturias), Javier Gonzalez (Euskadi) and the Olympic
repeater Francisco San Martin (Valencia).
Before Lugo, at the end of 2011, the IPC Shooting World Cup in Australia
was the final major competition for athletes to win direct slots for their
countries at the London Paralympic Games. The Sydney International Shooting
Centre received 130 athletes.
By the side of Spanish
Olympic Shooting Federation (REFEDETO), Madrid will have also in competition at
London the shooters Javier Lopez, from Murcia (50 rifle prone), Pablo Carrera,
from Euskadi (50 free pistol), Jorge Llamez, from Asturias (25 rapid free
pistol) and Sonia Franquet, from Catalunya (25 pistol).
"In Lugo we dream about the
tournament to become an international meeting of Shooting," promised Gervásio
Murado, organizer of this successful Open.
