VIENNA, March 8, 2012 - The European Handball Federation’s Media and Communications Department currently has an opening for a Media & Communications Specialist to join its team, starting immediately or by individual arrangement.
EHF is looking for somebody ideally with a background in media or journalism to take on a variety of tasks and responsibilities including planning and implementing communication strategies, writing and editing content for websites and written publications, producing media releases and information packs and dealing with media enquiries. The role will also involve working as part of the EHF media team at major handball events such as the EHF European Championships and the VELUX EHF FINAL4.
Excellent written and spoken English are essential for the role, an ability to speak German or willingness to learn will also be important. This new role is full-time and based at the EHF office in Vienna, Austria.
European Handball Federation (EHF)
The EHF is the umbrella organisation for handball in Europe. It has 50 member federations and one associated federation. Together with its marketing subsidiary, EHF Marketing GmbH, the EHF is responsible for the organisation of major high profile handball events and competitions such as the EHF European Championships and EHF Champions League.

The EHF Media and Communications Department is responsible for internal and external communications, media management at major events, media relations, EHF websites and social media, writing and producing official publications and graphic design.
Purpose of Role
- Implementation of communication strategies, especially in relation to EHF EURO and the EHF Champions League, in order to achieve wider coverage in the media.
- Planning, creating and editing English language content for EHF websites, social media and written publications.
- Coordinating work of network of journalists across Europe, who provide content for EHF websites and publications.
- Dealing with media enquiries, preparing media information (including press releases and press packs) and media management at events such as draws and press conferences.
- Maintaining and developing contacts within the EHF media network including club and federation media officers and media representatives.
- Using online tools to monitor media coverage of the EHF, its activities and competitions on a daily basis, providing evaluation and analysis.
Person Profile
- Excellent written and spoken English, ability to communicate in German or a willingness to learn. Additional languages would be an advantage.
- Qualifications to degree level or related experience in English, journalism, communications, public relations or a similar field.
- At least 3-5 years’ experience of working in journalism, communications, media or public relations.
- A flair for writing and editing English language content.
- Knowledge and passion for the handball/sports market - a definite advantage.
- Knowledge and expertise in the field of social media (Facebook, Twitter etc).
- Excellent communication and planning skills.
- Excellent computer skills including MS Office and experience of using CMS systems.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Resident in Vienna or willingness to relocate.
