BRUSSELS, January 7, 2013 - In Dworp (near Brussels) Mick Michels unexpectedly passed away at the age of 80 (09.03.1932). The Belgian and European sports journalism fraternity once again mourn a prominent colleague in the history of our profession and organization.
Mick Michels served 18 years (1981 – 1999) as Secretary General of the Belgian Professional Sports Journalist’s Association (sportspress.be) and served also 9 years as Secretary General of the UEPS- AIPS Europe (1985 –
Mick Michels was a highly respected football-specialist for the Flemish daily “Het Nieuwsblad” and for “Sportmagazine, the weekly that he helped to start in 1981. He was awarded the “Persprijs van het Gemeentekrediet” for the stories of his sports journalism adventures in Latin American.
Michels also excelled as the author of several books about football. Many international colleagues knew and appreciated him as the welcoming, friendly, punctual and efficient Media Officer for UEFA and FIFA.

The funeral ceremony will take place next Saturday January 12th in the Sint Gaugericus church (pron: Sint Goriks) in 1653 Dworp (Beersel).
