Stars gather for a good cause
Celebrity skiers in Idre Fjall: in first row, Prince Albert of Monaco between Anja Paerson and Pernilla Wiberg

By Nisse Schmidt

IDRE FJÄLL, Sweden, April 4, 2007 – Former Swedish Olympic and World Cup Champion Pernilla Wiberg gathered a galaxy of stars to raise almost 50,000 Euro for charity.

Well known sports identities joined Prince Albert of Monaco in a race that attracted thousands of spectators.

The fund raising event was held at the Pernilla Wiberg Hotel 450km north of Stockholm. Sunshine, cold hard snow and +10 degrees blessed the event which brought spectators in their thousands to watch the celebrity race.

The ski cross race involved 12 teams and victorious was the team of Tom Kristensen, Bödvar Bjerke (Pernilla’s husband), Finn-Christian Jagge and Johan Wikefeldt, closely followed by Prince Albert’s group which included Anja Paerson.

After the race and the prize giving ceremony there was a big apre ski followed by a dinner for participants and VIPS. Prince Albert praised Pernilla for organizing the event to benefit those less fortunate and thanked her for the welcome hospitality.

Half of the money raised came from sponsors with the rest raised in a special auction of items including Ingemar Stenmark’s old GS suit, Anja Paerson’s helmet from the recent Åre competition, Riccardo Patrese’s racing suit, and luxury goods including a Breitling watch, skis and jewelry.

Money raised will benefit  the World Childhood Foundation and AMADE, the World Association of Children’s Friends.

Among the stars who attended the event was SAS Prince Albert II of Monaco, Ingemar Stenmark, Anja Paerson, Kjetil-Andre Aamodt, Riccardo Patrese, Tom Kristensen, Frankie Fredericks, Peter Runggaldier, Claudio Chiappucci, Lasse Kjus, Hannes Trinkl, Gunde Svan, Magdalena Forsberg, and Jonas Nilsson. StarTeam President Mauro Serra explained that he was very satisfied with the arrangement: “Just perfect, like the weather”.
