BEST PRESS FACILITIES 2023
As was done for the first time in 2022, we have divided the press facilities of multi-sport events from those of single-sport championships. 2023 was an exciting year for many sports journalists who experienced unforgettable championships and tournaments, underlining the unique feeling that only live sports events can give. The International Sports Press Association also enjoyed a great year with its Young Reporters Programmes: A total of 10 projects were organised throughout the year, making 2023 the most engaging year between AIPS and young journalists. A total number of 106 Young Reporters were involved in our projects in 2023, more than ever, marking a record for our Association. In these events AIPS observed a growing excitement and interest for sports in people - and sports journalists as well.
MULTI-SPORT
The Summer World University Games held in Chengdu, China, stood out as one of the most impressive editions ever in the history of the FISU Games. The Main Media Centre (MMC), inaugurated for the occasion, provided all necessities for sport journalists to feel at home and to guarantee optimal working conditions. Efficient services were guaranteed as well in Berlin, Germany, where the Special Olympics World Summer Games stood up as the largest inclusive multi-sports event that the world of sports has to offer, with proper logistics, info points and tools at the disposal of sports journalists to properly cover all events in Berlin and its surrounding areas.
Both in Chengdu and Berlin AIPS organised two successful Young Reporters Programmes, in collaboration with FISU and Special Olympics respectively.
SINGLE SPORTS
The 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, encouraged a rising popularity for athletics for sports journalists as well: The National Athletics Centre - inaugurated on the occasion of the Championships - witnessed records, unique stories and excitement for fans, with unforgettable sports tales to be told by sports journalists. The working conditions for the press created by the FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, by the 2023 edition of Wimbledon Championships and by the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France were also highly appreciated. Special thanks go to the organisers of these events for allowing our colleagues to work in the best possible conditions.
