Sports Writers Association of Liberia elects new officials for next three years
Members of the Sports Writers Association of Liberia (SWAL) have elect- ed a new leadership that will steer the affairs of the association for the next three years. Varmah Kamara who served as Vice President for the last three years was elected the new president of SWAL, defeating Tro- jan Kiazulu. In a closely contested election, Kamara secured 55 votes, surpassing Trojan Kiazulu’s 49 votes.
He replaced the outgoing President, Kolubah Zayzay, who chose not to seek re-election for a second term.
Christopher Walker defeated Nathaniel Tokpa 59 to 45 votes to win the Vice President position. In the race for Secretary General, Truth FM re- porter Edwin Dolo won with 59 votes against ELBC’s William Decent Toe, who received 46 votes.
The positions of Assistant Secretary, Financial Secretary, and Chaplain were won by Jerome Willie, Naomi Tappia, and Yusulf Sherif, respective- ly. A total of 105 out of the more than 170 registered members partici- pated in the closely-contested elections.
The elections took place at the end of the association’s 39th Congress held at the Wulki’s Farm in Caresbury Township, Lower Montserrado County.

SWAG elects leaders through seamless and successful E-Voting
By Charles Osei Asibey Members of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) elected new leaders for the next four-year tenure on October 21, 2023. Out of a total of 266 eligible voters, 193 cast their ballots through E-Voting.
Incumbent President, Kwabena Yeboah went unopposed and therefore retained his seat. However, Maurice Quansah could not secure his seat and was dethroned as vice president by Evelyn Nsiah Asare, who became the first female Vice President of the Association. Nsiah Asare polled 128 of 193 representing 48.12 per cent of the total votes cast to beat the incumbent who had 65 votes representing 24.44 per cent. General Secretary, Charles Osei Asibey was reelected unopposed. The Deputy General Secretary position was contested by Kenneth Odeng Adade and Joseph Oti-Asirifi Mensah. At the close of polls, Adade won the position after securing 148 out of 193 representing 55.64 per cent of the total votes cast while Mensah managed to get 43 votes representing 16.17 per cent.
Owuraku Nsiah and Mavis Amanor both went unopposed as Treasurer and Women’s Commissioner, respectively.

Four contestants stood to be elected as Executive Committee members and by the close of polls Tilda Elinam Accorlor led the pack with 161 votes representing 60.53 per cent followed by Augustine Ohene-Bam- poe Brenya, an incumbent with 147 votes representing 55.26 per cent and Franklin Anane with 144 votes representing 54.14 per cent while Kyei Manu also polled 121 representing 45.49 percent of votes cast. The results above meant Accorlor, Brenya and Anane got the slots as SWAG Executive Committee members.

Yemeni Association for Sports Media renews confidence in Saleh Humaid as its president
By Basheer Senan The Yemeni Association for Sports Media held its 2023 General Assembly on December 28 at the Youth Palace Halls in the Yemeni capital, Sana'a. Members who could not attend the gathering in person connected virtually, especially those residing abroad.
The General Assembly elected a new Executive Board for the term 2024- 2027, with Saleh Humaid and Khaled Al-Nawari re-elected unopposed as president and secretary general, respectively. The new board confirmed the appointment of Basheer Senan as the executive director of the asso- ciation for the period.
